Marie Dolls

Posted by

Little girls everywhere have been given a doll at one time or another.  This is one of the first steps to understanding nurturing and motherhood at an early age.  Girls everywhere like to play “mom” with their dolls.  They have make believe games, they feed them, dress them, and put them to bed.  Being the only girl in a large family, it was only natural that Marie Osmond would receive a lot of dolls as gifts.  Since she and her mother were the only women in the family, doll collecting became a passion for them and they would collect dolls from all over the world as they travelled from place to place on their many tours.  This collection seemed to pave the way for the creation of Marie Dolls.

In 1991 Marie Osmond turned her love of dolls into a doll making business.  That business has grown to one of the most successful brands in the industry.  She began sculpting as she grew up and found interests other than signing and dancing.  Her first doll creation was a toddler doll that she named after her mother “Olive May". This doll debuted on QVC and broke the record for collectibles, selling over $3 million in its first airing.

Marie’s trademark signature is the beauty dot placed near the doll’s left eye, showing Marie’s own beauty mark. Marie has since sculpted other dolls including "Adora Belle” and “Remember Me”.

As Marie herself says
"When I started my doll company, I had no idea how well it would be received. I guess I just didn’t realize how many doll collectors there were out there.”
”Being a collector myself, I know what other collectors look for in dolls…memorable faces, the finest porcelain, creative concepts, high quality wigs, eyes and costumes, etc.,…so that’s how I make my dolls". Marie goes on to say, "I love hearing personal stories from collectors about their dolls, and how a certain doll holds special meaning for them by either sparking a memory or by creating a new one. That’s the payoff for me! That’s what collecting is all about."
Doll collecting has grown to be one of the largest hobbies in the United States.  While Marie Dolls are fairly new to the landscape of doll collecting and are not yet considered to be in the “Antique” doll collecting category, it will not be that long until they enter that realm.  As such, collectors should follow the same steps as antique collectors if you might turn this hobby for a profit in the future.

Since Marie was featured on “Dancing with the Stars” , Marie has added a dancing line of dolls to her collection that are based on the outfits shoe wore on the show. This includes the pink frilly babydoll outfit she wore for her freestyle dance routine.  The collection also includes the short ruffled turquoise dress that she had one when she fainted on the show.  All in all, if you are interested in doll collecting, Marie Dolls is a wonderful way to go.

Marie Osmond Doll’s inspirational theme for her dolls in 2009 is "You’ve Gotta Have Heart!" Marie wants to stress to her collectors, as well as all women in general, the need to pay attention to both yourself and your heart.

Marie Osmond Doll News

Marie, your bedroom is beautiful as are you! But why no mention of your dolls? I’ve heard many rumors that you’re moving away from dolls due to the economy. Is it true this is your last year at QVC and with your dolls?
